After a pandemic period marked mostly by retrospective projects, U2 is moving forward once again.<\/p>\n
On Friday (March 17 \u2013 St. Patrick\u2019s Day, appropriately enough), the Irish quartet brought forth\u00a0Songs of Surrender<\/em>, its first new album in six years \u2014 a companion of sorts to frontman Bono\u2019s 2022 memoir \u2014 that finds the band reimagining 40 songs from throughout its career. It is accompanied by\u00a0Bono & The Edge: A Sort Of Homecoming, With Dave Letterman,<\/em>\u00a0a\u00a0documentary\u00a0that is now streaming on Disney+. U2 also unveiled a U2SOS40 video series that will eventually feature 60-second clips, by different creators, for each of the songs, while the band\u2019s return to live performing will take place this fall as the inaugural concerts at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n And if that isn\u2019t enough, bassist Adam Clayton has also partnered with Fender for a new amplifier, the ACB 50. \u201cIt feels like a bonus the whole way, just because this is at a time in your life where you don\u2019t expect to be this busy,\u201d Clayton, who turned 63 last week, tells\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0via Zoom from Dublin. \u201cI guess we\u2019re very lucky that we get to do the thing that we\u2019ve always loved doing and we\u2019re still doing it, and somehow we\u2019re still getting better at doing it. At some point I suppose the arc changes, but I don\u2019t feel like we\u2019re at that point yet.
