The U2 frontman\u00a0\u2013 born Paul David Hewson \u2013 was a founding member of\u00a0the Irish rock band, which formed in 1976 while they were attending Mount Temple Comprehensive\u00a0School\u00a0in Dublin.<\/p>\n
As a teenager he began dating his future wife, Alison Stewart, who was also in the same year as his bandmate David Howell Evans, best known as The Edge. They also went to school with Larry Mullen Jr., the band\u2019s drummer.<\/p>\n
Across the past 49 years, U2 have released 15 studio albums and are one of the world\u2019s best-selling music artists, having sold an estimated 150\u2013170 million records worldwide. They\u2019ve also won 22\u00a0Grammys, eight\u00a0Brit Awards\u00a0and two Golden Globe Awards<\/p>\n
But decades on, Bono has joked about suggestions his wife, 63, whom he married in 1982\u00a0and shares four children with, had a fling with The Edge.<\/p>\n
In the upcoming documentary, Bono: Stories of Surrender, he suggests his wife of 42 years and his band mate were \u2018an item\u2019.<\/p>\n
When interviewed on The Project about his comment on Sunday, he joked it was still a \u2018sore subject\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018They were the two cleverest in their year,\u2019 he said of Ali and David, who were in the year below him.<\/p>\n
\u2018She did seem to be taking an interest in his guitar playing and, as hard as I might practice, I just knew I couldn\u2019t touch this guy.<\/p>\n
\u2018So, I had to become, you know, the class clown.\u2019<\/p>\n
