When they return in May, Dawson \u2013 a member of Steve Harris\u2019 band British Lion \u2013 will be behind the kit.<\/p>\n<p>We were hoping Nick was going to [complete] the tour, but there were some times during the show when\u2026 we were worried,\u201d Dickinson said during a recent interview at the Musicians\u2019 Institute in Hollywood (video below<\/p>\n<p>We were like, \u2018We do not want to end up with Nick in hospital, and we do need to have a backup.\u2019 And Simon was suggested by Steve, and we all went, \u2018Yeah, but how do we know it\u2019s gonna work?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With McBrain\u2019s agreement, the band booked a rehearsal studio in Portland, OR, to see how Dawson would cope. \u201cAnd honestly, I was pleasantly shocked,\u201d the singer reported. \u201cWe went through the whole set without a break.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd this guy had not rehearsed with anybody \u2013 he just, like, turned up with Maiden. We went through the entire set\u2026 and it was all there. I thought, \u2018My God, we could do a show tonight if we had to.\u2019 That\u2019s unreal.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He revealed the band had been pleasantly
