Vincent Kompany and Manuel Neuer: A Different Kind of Tension
Vincent Kompany has faced questions about Manuel Neuer’s performances at Bayern Munich, particularly after difficult Champions League matches. However, rather than publicly attacking his captain, Kompany has generally emphasized collective responsibility and defended Neuer against criticism.
After Bayern’s 1–4 defeat to Barcelona in October 2024, Kompany stressed that the defeat could not simply be blamed on Neuer. He said that when Bayern lose, responsibility belongs to the entire team, from the goalkeeper through the defense and attack to the coaching staff.
