U2 frontman Bono is one of the richest rockstars in the world, with an estimated net worth of $700 million (£529m).

When Bono, born Paul David Hewson, isn’t captivating audiences onstage or championing causes as an activist, he’s a dedicated family man. He and his wife, Ali Hewson, have four children together: Jordan, Eve, Elijah, and John. And from entrepreneurship to entertainment, the talented kids are forging impressive careers and building sizable fortunes.

Bono met his band mates Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen Jr., and David Howell Evans (The Edge) in high school, where they formed the band that would become known as U2. The band is pictured here in 1981.

The Irish rockers scored a recording contract with Island Records in 1980, but their early music flopped. Fortunately, their third studio album, War (1983)became a chart-topper, saving the band from breaking up. By the time U2 released their fifth album, The Joshua Tree (1987), they were famous across the world.

Today, U2 is one of the most successful bands ever, having released 15 studio albums and sold over 170 million records worldwide.

Over the course of a decade-spanning career, the band has picked up 22 Grammy Awards and received 46 nominations. In 2005, U2 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

U2’s groundbreaking tours are responsible for a large chunk of Bono’s wealth. The band’s 360° Tour (pictured), which ran from 2009 to 2011, is their most profitable. At the time, it set the record for the highest-grossing concert tour ever, banking $736 million. That’s a phenomenal $1 billion (£740m) in today’s money.

The epic trek saw the band play 110 shows across North America, Europe, Oceania, Africa, and South America, selling 7.3 million tickets in the process.
