U2 have released a new cover of The Pogues’ “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” as their contribution to _20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan_, an upcoming tribute album celebrating the late singer-songwriter’s enduring musical legacy. Released on August 28, 2026, the recording reimagines the energetic Pogues song while reflecting U2’s longstanding connection with MacGowan and his work.
The tribute album, scheduled for release on November 13, brings together prominent Irish and international artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Hozier, Tom Waits, The Libertines, Primal Scream, Glen Hansard and Dropkick Murphys. The project was inspired by an idea MacGowan himself had envisioned before his death in November 2023. Shane MacGowan+1
U2 guitarist The Edge described MacGowan as a complex figure whose wildness, Irish influences and storytelling connected traditional Irish culture with punk music. The band’s tribute therefore serves not only as a musical reinterpretation but also as an acknowledgment of MacGowan’s influence on generations of musicians. At least half of the artists’ royalties from the album will be donated to Dublin Simon Community, supporting people experiencing homelessness. Shane MacGowan+
