Dave Grohl ‘Had to Turn Everything Off’ After Admitting to Affair and Says He’s Done ‘Over 430’ Therapy Sessions Since
Grohl revealed in a September 2024 social media post that he fathered a child outside of his marriage to wife Jordyn Blum
The Foo Fighters rocker, 57, made the admission in a social media post shared in September 2024. He opened up about his life now in an interview with The Guardian on Friday, March 20 as his band prepares to release a new album
Grohl (who married Blum in 2003) told the outlet he’s “been in therapy six days a week for 70 weeks,” adding, “I did the math the other day: over 430 sessions.”
He opted not to reveal whether admitting to having an affair was the main reason for seeking help. “There were so many things that led me to this therapy,” he said. (Grohl lost his mother, Virginia, in August 2022, five months after the death of Foo Fighters band mate Taylor Hawkins while the band was playing in Colombia in March 2022.)
“I have to be perfectly honest. Writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough,” explained Grohl, referencing Your Favorite Toy.
“As far as having a deeper, longer conversation about them, I still do reserve a lot of this for my own personal life, as impersonal and public as it may seem,” he said. “But I think that for many reasons, I wound up in a place that I needed to stop and sit with myself and re-evaluate myself. It’s an ongoing process.”
Grohl did open up on how he dealt with opening up about the affair on social media. “I had to turn everything off, one of those things being my concern for what other people think,” he said. “Being able to shut off that part of yourself can be sometimes a very healthy exercise in considering life within your immediate radius. Not giving all of that so much currency within yourself that it can completely destroy yourself.”
