Gary O’Neil believes there were positives to take despite Town’s Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal.
The Blues were beaten by the Gunners but put in a spirited display, with second-half strikes from Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom halving the deficit and seeing the tie end 4-2 to the visitors.
After the game, O’Neil reflected on the fixture and felt there were positive signs for us to build on ahead of an important Premier League clash with Everton on Saturday.
“It was a tough test with a group that hasn’t played much, and I thought a lot of them came out, or all of them, came out with real credit,’ the manager stated shortly after full-time at Portman Road.
“I thought they had a right go and stuck at it. It didn’t feel like a 4-0 game at any point, but the quality that they have meant they got into that position.
“We found a way to fight our way back into it, though. I’m disappointed that we didn’t win because that’s what we’re here for, but there are lots of positives to take.
“We managed to get some minutes into a lot of players that need it, and we still look a threat, which is the important thing for me.
“Arsenal are a good side defensively. They don’t concede many chances at all, and we were still able to get through. We were still able to create problems for them.”
